Ucheon Barian Village in Sacheon City, Gyeongnam Province has developed three types of education programs utilizing traditional weaving culture and labor songs, completing 11 demonstration sessions. According to the announcement on November 18, 73 students from Gonyang Elementary School and Yongnam Middle School participated.
The program consists of three parts: learning traditional weaving at your fingertips, singing grandmother songs with the loom, and creating storybooks connected by thread.
The village grandmothers served as instructors. They taught the students the loom songs and sang together. The loom songs were local labor songs sung while weaving. The program was conducted in a way that conveyed traditional culture in connection with the curriculum.
In the storybook creation program, students produced their own fairy tale books based on what they learned from the weaving experience and loom song classes. Elementary students drew pictures while middle school students wrote the text, collaborating together.
Ucheon Barian Village is designated as a rural experience and leisure village. This program was operated in conjunction with the Sacheon City Agricultural Technology Center.
Moon Hyung-gap, the chairman of Ucheon Barian Village, stated, "We will establish a sustainable rural experience and leisure village education ecosystem through programs that can enhance students' understanding of traditional culture."
